St Johnstone boss wants Nigel Hasselbaink to learn from Ryan Giggs

St Johnstone boss Steve Lomas has urged Nigel Hasselbaink to follow the example of a Manchester United legend to become a better all-round player.

The young Dutchman scored his sixth league goal of the season against Celtic in midweek, a curling cracker from the edge of the Hoops’ box, to earn Saints a well-earned draw.

His manager acknowledged that the frontman possesses bags of talent but he has called on him to add hard graft to his list of attributes to make himself a fixture in the Perth side’s starting line-up.

Lomas said: “Nigel has got all the ability but it’s the other side of the game he needs to work on. He’s one of the most talented players we have and my job is to get him doing it on a consistent basis.

“I’m sure he thinks I’m on his case too much and always being negative about him.

“But what I would say is look at the best players, guys like Ryan Giggs who have been absolute superstars over the years, and see how much work they put in.”
