Ryan Giggs: 'I’d only play in Olympics if FAW were happy with it'

Ryan Giggs has revealed he would shelve plans to play in the Olympics if it angered the Football Association of Wales.

Welsh great Giggs admits he would consider playing for Team GB at London 2012 Games if he was selected.

But, with the FAW openly against Welsh players’ involvement, Giggs said he would seek talks with officials rather than risk repercussions.

Stuart Pearce says Giggs, Scholes and Beckham could be in action for Team GB at Old Trafford

Stuart Pearce has refused to rule out the possibility that three of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most famous fledglings could be reunited to kick-off Great Britain’s bid for Olympic gold at Old Trafford this summer.

This year’s Olympics will begin with the opening game of the football tournament in Manchester on July 26, a day before the opening ceremony in London.

Chris Coleman handed Wales reins

Former Fulham and Coventry manager Chris Coleman has been officially appointed as the new coach of the Wales national side.

The 41-year-old succeeds his former international team-mate Gary Speed, who tragically passed away in November 2011.

The Football Association of Wales refused to be rushed into a decision regarding a new boss, but they have now turned to Coleman.

With a 2014 World Cup qualification campaign looming large on the horizon, it is important for stability to be returned to the camp.

Sam Ricketts: Ryan Giggs can be Wales manager

Sam Ricketts would love Ryan Giggs to be installed as Gary Speed’s successor as Wales manager.

But Bolton’s Welsh international defender admits the vacancy has come too soon for the United legend.

Reds boss Sir Alex Ferguson recently rejected an approach from the Football Association of Wales to hand the Old Trafford legend his first managerial appointment.

Verheijen wants Giggs or Rush to continue Speed's legacy as Wales boss

Gary Speed's assistant manager has rejected the choice of Chris Coleman as the country's new boss, sparking an unseemly and bitter battle at the heart of Welsh football.

Dutchman Raymond Verheijen has thrown his weight behind the appointment of either Ian Rush or Ryan Giggs in an attempt to 'protect' Speed's legacy.

And that has left Football Association of Wales chief executive Jonathan Ford with a major headache ahead of a qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup.

Sir Alex tells Wales to forget about appointing Giggs as manager

Sir Alex Ferguson has rejected an approach from the Welsh FA to make Ryan Giggs their new manager.

The FAW had highlighted the Manchester United legend as their main target when they began looking for a successor to the late Gary Speed earlier this month.

United boss Ferguson was approached and told that Giggs would only be required in a part-time role so that he could continue to play the club, but the Scot turned down the request.

Malcolm Allen wants Ryan Giggs as next Wales manager

Former Wales striker Malcolm Allen believes Ryan Giggs should follow Gary Speed as national team manager.

Manchester United winger Giggs was linked to the job when John Toshack resigned in September 2010.

But Allen says the time is now right for Giggs to lead Wales following the death of Speed.

"There's only one man in my opinion that comes at the top of that tree and take us forward and that's Ryan Giggs," he said.

Speed news saddens Giggs

Ryan Giggs has added his voice to the tributes being paid to Gary Speed, with the Manchester United midfielder 'devastated' to learn of his death.

Speed, who had been the manager of the Welsh national side, was found dead at his home in Huntington, Chester on Sunday morning.

Like Giggs, Speed's longevity as a player set Premier League records.

Speed's goal for Bolton at Reading in August 2007 made him the only player at that point to have scored in every Premier League season to date.
