Giggs: Berba is a special talent

Ahead of Dimitar Berbatov’s return to face his old club at Old Trafford, Ryan Giggs has paid tribute to the former Red he calls “an amazing talent.”

Berbatov will be in town with Fulham on Saturday for the FA Cup fourth round clash - the first game against his old club since his switch from United to the Cottagers last summer. The Bulgarian has excelled in his role in Martin Jol's side and has netted seven goals so far this term.

Giggs expects Berbatov to be afforded a good reception by the United faithful and says it will be fully deserved.

“United fans always appreciate talent and Berba certainly has talent,” the veteran told ManUtd.com and PA Sport.

“We all remember the bits of magic he produced against West Ham on the touchline and his hat-trick against Liverpool which always goes down well with our fans!

“Maybe it suits him being at Fulham, where he is the focal point and the main man. Everything goes through him. That won't bother him. He would want to be the main man and score all the goals and be hitting the headlines.

"We will need to keep an eye on him because he is an amazing talent and a brilliant player.”

While important league games remain ahead and the Champions League last 16 tie with Real Madrid is drawing ever closer, Giggs insists progress in the FA Cup remains high on United's priority list.

“A home draw is all you can ask for and that’s what we’ve got and we’ve got to capitalise on that. We don’t want a replay because we’ve got a lot of games coming up,” added the 39-year-old.

“We realise it’s going to be a difficult match – Fulham did well when they came to Old Trafford earlier in the season and we’re going to have to be at it right from the start.

“The competition is special for me because I know how it feels to win the FA Cup, it’s a great feeling. The FA Cup was a huge competition for me growing up and it still is. And the rest of the players who haven’t won are desperate to win it.”
