Ryan Giggs signs on for 21st season with Manchester United

Ryan Giggs has agreed a one-year contract extension with Manchester United. The deal means that Giggs, who made his debut in 1991, will be part of United's first-team set-up for a 21st season.

The 37-year-old holds the club record for appearances – currently 862 – and has scored 158 goals. He has amassed 11 Premier League titles, four FA Cup winner's medals and two in the Champions League in his time playing under Sir Alex Ferguson.

"All I've ever wanted to do is play for United and I've been lucky enough to do that for 20 years," said Giggs. "It's great to know I'm still contributing to the team's success and I feel I've got a lot to offer on and off the pitch. This is an exciting time to be involved with so many good young players coming through."

His manager, Ferguson, described the Welshman as "a marvellous player and a wonderful man", adding: "You run out of words to describe Ryan Giggs."

"To have the desire and the ability to play at the top level in such a physically demanding position at his age requires a special person," said Ferguson. "He is still turning in man of the match performances and his experience is so vital for the younger players in the squad."
