Alex Ferguson visit sealed Ryan Giggs deal for Manchester United

Ryan Giggs has revealed that a personal visit from Alex Ferguson convinced him to sign a contract with Manchester United at the tender age of 13-years-old.

The Welshman went on to break a host of records at Old Trafford, playing 963 for the club and winning an unprecedented 13 Premier League titles. He now helps Louis van Gaal as assistant manager as his long association with the Red Devils stretches towards three decades.

But Giggs may never have donned the red shirt of Manchester United had it not been for a personal visit from Ferguson, who was still in the onset of building his dynasty at the club. Manchester United's talent scouts had alerted Ferguson to the talented teenager and he was impressed enough to go and offer him a contract in person.

Giggs, 41, is quoted in the Daily Star as saying: “I went home from school, still in my school uniform, and there was Sir Alex Ferguson at my house.

"It was a couple of cups of tea, few Digestives, then I signed the forms and I was like ‘Can I go back out and play football again, now?’
