Giggs gets going

Ryan Giggs has now scored 29 times in 16 Champions League seasons, but where did this impressive tally begin? Seventeen years ago precisely - against IFK Gothenburg at Old Trafford on 14 September 1994.

Ryan Giggs' 29th Champions League goal for United brought back memories of his very first - weirdly scored on the exact same date, 14 September, in 1994.

The Welshman was so young back then (20), he only had two Premier League medals in his trophy cabinet. And while a winner's gong on the continent would elude him for another five years, at least he was able to open his European Cup goals account that night at Old Trafford, 17 years ago.

His boyhood hero Mark Hughes was involved - now a team-mate, Sparky delivered a low cross that was only partially cleared by the Gothenburg defence. Giggs kept his composure to seal the deal and - just as he did against Benfica - level the scoreline at 1-1. The Reds went on to win the match 4-2.

Ryan has now scored in more Champions League seasons - 16 - than any other player. Look out for two special celebratory videos on ManUtd.com this Thursday and Friday to mark his latest feat.
