Stuart Pearce says Giggs, Scholes and Beckham could be in action for Team GB at Old Trafford

Stuart Pearce has refused to rule out the possibility that three of Sir Alex Ferguson’s most famous fledglings could be reunited to kick-off Great Britain’s bid for Olympic gold at Old Trafford this summer.

This year’s Olympics will begin with the opening game of the football tournament in Manchester on July 26, a day before the opening ceremony in London.

Ryan Giggs and David Beckham are among 184 of 191 players contacted by the Football Association who have indicated they wish to be considered for the British men's team at the London 2012 Olympics.

Only seven of the 191 players written to by the FA last month have ruled themselves out. They are from across the home nations, including at least one Englishman, and from a spread of clubs.

Beckham and Giggs to lead Team GB at London Olympics next summer – report

New Team GB coach Stuart Pearce is set to include both Ryan Giggs and David Beckham in his squad for next summer’s Olympic Games in London, according to reports.

Former Manchester United star Beckham, 36, is set to link up with his old teammate Giggs as two of three players permitted to be in the squad above the age of 23.

The midfielder’s contract with LA Galaxy is set to expire next summer, and a host of clubs are rumoured to be interested in his signature, including Paris Saint-Germain and Queens Park Rangers.

Ryan Giggs could play at 2012 Olympics

Ryan Giggs, the most decorated player in British football, could grace the twilight of his career with the chance of an Olympic medal.

The 37-year-old Manchester United star could force his way into the Great Britain men's squad for London 2012 as one of three overaged players.

Stuart Pearce was unveiled as the head coach for the men's football team yesterday, with Hope Powell put in charge of the women's squad.
