Salford City and Class of 92 celebrate Evo-Stik North title

Paul Scholes and Phil Neville in the Salford City dug out during the season
SALFORD CITY, who are owned by Manchester United's famous Class of '92, have been crowned Evo-Stik North champions – without even playing.

Darlington’s slip at Lancaster on Saturday meant they would need Salford to drop points on the final day of the season in order to catch the leaders.

But the title race won’t even go that far as Darlo dropped another two points on Tuesday night, drawing 1-1 at Warrington Town.

That means the Ammies now have an unassailable four-point lead and the club has won the title in their first season since the takeover by Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary and Phil Neville and Ryan Giggs - amazingly with 92 points!

STALYBRIDGE CELTIC’s fate will be decided on the final day, though, having spurned the chance to secure survival in the Conference North.

Joe Colbeck’s 24th-minute penalty proved enough to give visitors Bradford Park Avenue a 1-0 victory at Bower Fold.

That left Stalybridge two points clear of third-bottom Colwyn Bay heading into the final day, when they host Gainsborough.

Goals by Chris Baguley and Ben Deegan saw ASHTON UNITED come from behind for a 2-1 win at home to Witton Albion to book their place in the Evo-Stik Premier play-offs.

Relegated TRAFFORD lost 4-1 at home to Blyth while NORTHWICH VICTORIA beat MACCLESFIELD TOWN 3-2 in the Cheshire Senior Cup final.
