Ryan Giggs Backs Gareth Bale After Criticism

Real Madrid world-record signing Gareth Bale is confronting his first difficult spell at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, with the winger the subject of boos from the Real fans as well as at the centre of team-mate ire.

Bale has been castigated by his own fanbase for taking a chance on himself when a colleague has been in a better shooting position, and with his fellow Real Madrid players James Rodriguez and Cristiano Ronaldo making their feelings clear with some theatrical body language, the Welshman’s stock amongst Los Meringues’ support has never been lower.

However, Bale’s football hero and compatriot Ryan Giggs has backed the £85.3m signing, insisting that the criticism the 25-year-old is receiving is all part of the unfortunate package of being at a big club – and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

Giggs believes that Bale has been outstanding since his arrival with the La Liga giants, and can more than handle the pressure that comes with the job:

“When you are at a big club expectations are high,” Giggs was quoted as telling The Sun.

“But Gareth has handled himself brilliantly and been such a part of a Real Madrid team that has won so much and achieved so much in the last year.

“When you have a few bad results or the odd average game, expectations are so high that sometimes you are in for a bit of criticism. It’s all part of being at a big club,” claimed the Old Trafford legend.

Real Madrid prepare for the clash with Deportivo de La Coruña on Valentine’s Day, and after the embarrassing thrashing at the hands of none other than city rivals Atletico Madrid on Saturday, Bale must step up to banish the boo-boys with Barcelona closing to within just a point of Ancelotti’s men at the top.
