Ryan Giggs sends message to Daniel James amid Manchester United transfer exit speculation

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has not spoken to Daniel James about his future, but believes the winger can soon return to his best.

James has been heavily linked with an exit from United just one year after signing, with Leeds United among those keen on a move either permanently or on loan this summer. MEN Sport understands James is keen to remain at Old Trafford and fight for his spot.

And Giggs, James' manager for Wales, has no concerns about the 22-year-old after calling him up to his national squad for upcoming games against England, Ireland and Bulgaria. United loanee Dylan Levitt also makes the squad.

Asked in a press conference he'd spoken to James about the transfer rumours, Giggs said: “No I haven’t because there’s a lot of speculation with a lot of players.

"I don’t really get into conversations until there’s something concrete. So no I haven’t.

"Dan was fantastic for us in the last campaign and I’m sure he’s looking forward to joining up with us again, as he always does.”

Giggs admitted James would have to deal with fierce criticism from time to time at United and revealed he is a mentor to the former Swansea winger.

“If you’re at a big club you’re always going to get criticised. It comes with the territory – you have to deal with that," added Giggs.

"That is something that will always happen. With me, I only talk to him when I feel he needs talking to.

"With me, he was fantastic. He hadn’t played any games, he turned up, was sharp, he’d looked after himself and that will be the case again I’m sure when he turns up on Sunday."
