Ryan Giggs names three Manchester United players responsible for saving season

Ryan Giggs praised Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood and Anthony Martial for their contribution in turning Manchester United's season around.

Champions League qualification looked out of reach following a dismal start to the season but the Reds enjoyed a rich vein of form following the arrival of Fernandes in the January transfer window.

The Portuguese hit the ground running in England and completely transformed the team. Victory against Leicester on the final day of the season, where Fernandes scored from the penalty spot, ensured United finished third in the table ahead of Chelsea on goal difference.

Martial was also in top form after the June restart with Greenwood also establishing himself as a key member of the first team thanks to his performances on the right flank.

Giggs hailed the impact of all three players when discussing United's achievement.

"It's a great achievement," Giggs told Premier League Productions. "The run that they've gone in - they fully deserve to be in the Champions League.

"You want to see Manchester United in the Champions League whether you support them or not. Because you want to see the big teams in the Champions League - that's what it's all about.

"I must say, [Bruno] Fernandes was the turning point. Once you signed him, you went from a team that was brilliant on the counter-attack to a team where you had a player who could play in between the lines and could break down teams that would come and defend.

"The form of Mason Greenwood and [Anthony] Martial as well to be fair.

"Ole deserves all the plaudits he's going to get because it's been a tremendous run."
