Ryan Giggs: It's not over yet

Ryan Giggs spoke to ManUtd.com's Nick Coppack at Stamford Bridge this week.

You must be delighted to get a rare win at Chelsea...
It's a great feeling. In the 90s, we had a reasonably good record at Chelsea but for the last nine years, we haven't been able to win a game at Stamford Bridge. It's an odd one, though, because over the last few seasons we've played really well but not got the results.

How difficult was it to hang onto the first-half lead?
We're really pleased to have won 1-0. We often have to switch things around in European games - it's a bit more tactical than your average league game. When they're bringing on players and we're getting injuries, you need to change things quickly and we did that well tonight.

There's still a lot of work to be done in the second leg...
The tie's not over yet. You could see in the second half that they put us under a lot of pressure and I'm sure we'll be under a lot of pressure again at Old Trafford. But it's our home ground, the fans will be up for it, the players will be up for it. We just need to build on what we've done here.

How impressive was Michael Carrick alongside you in midfield?
Michael's a top player. He defends well, he screens the back four well, he's got good feet, he can pass long and short. I've felt he's been outstanding over the past couple of weeks, to be honest with you.

And Rio Ferdinand's return has come at a good time...
It was a great boost to have Rio back. Chris Smalling's been outstanding since he's come into the team but obviously Rio brings something else and his partnership with Vida is amazing.
