Giggs: Strength in depth is key

Ryan Giggs believes the depth in quality of Manchester United's squad is their key strength after the Premier League leaders opened up a 15-point gap over rivals Manchester City.

United, who won 2-0 against struggling QPR, lost top scorer Robin van Persie during the first half to injury and also started with Wayne Rooney on the substitutes' bench but still dug deep to claim another important win on the road to reclaiming the league title.

And Giggs, who was on the scoresheet 19 years after first netting against QPR, talked up United's strength in depth after the game.

"I think the main thing is we're in good form and we have got nearly everyone fit," Giggs told Sky Sports. "The manager has got a big squad to choose from, so he can chop and change and keep everyone fresh.

"We're in good form and that is all you can ask, individually and as a team. We are winning scrappy games, we are winning games spectacularly, so we just have to keep it going."

"Just what we have been doing, which is win the next game. That's all we can do, not look too far ahead and not get too excited."

Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson was unable to confirm if Van Persie would be able to make a quick return after he was replaced by Danny Welbeck in the 41st minute.

"He collided with a camera," Ferguson said. "It seems he hit the base of it, and he has got a very bruised hip."
