Ducker: Everyone wants Giggs to be the Man Utd’s Pep Guardiola

Manchester United want Ryan Giggs to become the club’s Pep Guardiola as they set him up for the main manager’s job while working with Louis van Gaal, according to The Times’ James Ducker.
 
Giggs, now retired, has gone down as one of Man Utd’s greatest ever players, alongside the likes of George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton.
 
He immediately joined the coaching staff under Louis van Gaal after hanging up his boots for the Red Devils, and he has helped steer the club back to the big time with a possible third-place finish in the Premier League on the horizon.
 
Man Utd are currently sat above neighbours Manchester City following their 4-2 drubbing of the reigning Premier League champions and look set to earn an automatic qualification spot back into the Champions League after missing out last season.
 
With Van Gaal at the helm, things have been steadied following David Moyes’ tough reign, and the Dutchman is preparing things for Giggs, on whom Ducker says that the club have high hopes pinned.
 
“He will benefit from working as Van Gaal’s assistant but whether he would need to gain experience elsewhere before getting the United job will always be open to debate,” Ducker told the United Report. “Everyone at the club is naturally hoping he could be United’s answer to Pep Guardiola but it’s impossible to predict at this stage whether he will be a success or not.”
 
Giggs finished his career with over 900 appearances – 963 in total – and won more Premier League titles himself than many clubs have done in their entire histories. Whenever Giggs does take the hot seat at United, he’s sure to have plenty of experience to back himself up with.
